Rolling Blackouts!

SO, went to see my friend Daniel's band play the other night: Rolling Blackouts. They are getting some LA love lately and it's good because they are good damnit. They played with Thee Makeout Party from LA. They too are good and so was the show. Here is some live stuff from the two bands. And just for good measure I added a picture of me on that rad boat ride I went on a couple days ago. Sayonara!

It was directed by the same guy who did the Bat For Lashes Video which is so damn good. Second is Vampire Weekend doing "Mansard Roof" live in a van. It's good. Last is Efterklang with "Illuminant". This is the best video I have seen in 08'. It's pretty damn cool. C ya all later.

Japanese Mustache Boat Ride

SO, my little lady and I went on a boat ride today in Marina Del Rey. It was an all paid ride with soju wine and great food. It was a party for the second issue of this free magazine called JPY. It's about Japanese fashion in LA. My little lady is in the recent issue so we went to this thing. It was fun, there were a ton of models and shit. Here are some pics and two inspired videos, one from up and comer Cornelius from Japan (played Disney Center in dwtn LA last week and has a good new album) and funny boat stuff!!

ED BANGER Bangs!!

SO, I have been on this kick of electronic music for a while now. Back in college our crew was pretty much into punk/indie/sk8ing/drinking etc... That was in Fargo. Now, we had another crew that was based in St. Cloud, MN. These guys were into more of the drug/electronic/hippie type of shit. Or at least that was the impression I got. Whenever we would go there they would be playing Daft Punk records and whenever they came up to Fargo we would be playing Rocket From the Crypt records. SO, St. Cloud was my intro to dance music and it has carried over to the present. There is this recod lable out of Paris called ED BANGER. It is what Justice is on. Almost all of the DJs on it are sooo good. So here is your chance to here some of them. Go to NODATTA 's blog and get some for free or try Shareminer. It's good music for when you are doin' shit around the house.

F-M The Wisconsin Dells!!

SO, here is another live video of my old band The Wisconsin Dells. We played in Fargo,ND in the late 90's and 2000. Most of you know who we were because you are my friends but those of you from 31 different countries that watch cLAy TV!! we were good, damn good. See yourself. No..no..no we were just ok and having a f'n blast doin it. More than a band it was a community and lifestyle. It was great. Now for those of you who don't care about Fargo-Moorhead stuff then just go to an old post and watch your favorite video again and see ya tomorrow! OR, if don't know shit about Fargo besides that sweet movie called Fargo watch the second video. YEAH.
Here we are playing the Cinegrill in Fargo. The song is called Man Suit.

College Rock!

Chances are that if you went to college in the late/middle 90's you liked one of these bands a lot: Weezer and/or Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion. Well, I liked Weezer on their first two albums and Jon Spencer, well, Orange was a good album, right? Anyway, they are still going strong but in different bands. Here is Heavy Trash, Jon Spencer's new band, and Rivers Cuomo's new solo thang. They both are not that good really but for nostalgia, try smoking a bong load, eating a cold piece of pizza and crank these two songs. WHOA like totally 96' dude!

Came and Went....Test Icicles

I have been listening to Test Icicles for a couple years now, about as long as they have NOT been together and probably as long as they WERE together. Just as local bands in Fargo-Moorhead did, they got together, recorded a kick ass record, then broke-up. I still say to this day I have not heard the band I would like the best, because most bands don't ever really even make it around the track for me to see them. These guys are one of those bands. This is not really a new, cool, up and coming band. They are gone and have been for a while, their song came onto my iTunes shuffle and they resurfaced my brain. Sucks that they are done too, because I had tickets to see them at Spaceland.

R.I.P.

Two Videos and Bands to Watch in '08

These guys are going to be/already are huge in '08. They are the next big thing. Buzz band. Hip shit. Just as The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party did, Vampire Weekend seem to have come out of nowhere and are the hot shit and will be for a minute. So jump on board before they get too big and you don't like them anymore.

And this band has been around for a while but they have some steam behind them with their new album coming out soon. It's Goldfrapp. I am not a big fan really but my girl likes them and this video is sweet. It's directed by the same guy who did the Bat For Lashes video with that girl on the bike. (see my top 15 videos of 2007 to see that one, it kicks!) This song will be on their new album, Seventh Tree. I actually like the song, it's just so damn cute and nice. Makes me feel fuzzy.

Clay says, "They took it down. Guess it leaked and wasn't ready to be shown yet. I will put it up when it's ready. It's good."

The ReSurgence of Riot Grrrl!!

SO, there are three great bands I have just came across in the past days. They are all female fronted or totally female bands that are putting the "riot" back in "grrrl". Old bands like Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, or Huggy Bear were these kind of bands. They were bad-ass ladies that liked to just rule you on stage. It's back and better than ever. Listen to them and tell yourself, "Self, these girls are awesome." Then after that take a shower.

First off, straight outta LA baby it's: Mika Miko

They are so damn.....real. They don't f'around. They just do what they do and have a great time doin' it! They are getting big too, I tried to see them last night and when I got there it was sold-out! You go grrrrrlz!!

Second is PRE from the UK. Whoa, hot lead girl kills you in your throat. Can't wait to see these guys (aka grrrlz) at the smell in LA in a couple months!!

Third, is Erase Errata. They are from SF and they are sooo damn good. Seriously talented, insane smart and sassy and whoa!!!

Denton, TX and the Teenage Cool Kids....

SO, meee lady and some friend of mine went to this new punk house in LA called the House of Vermont. It's full of young, hip, cool, weed smokin', 40 drinkin' kids. It reminded me of the old Perot House in Fargo. It's a place that has shows and kids just out of high school livin' on their own for the first time and lovin' it. It was nice to be in that environment again. True underground music comes from these places. I saw plenty of bands in basements that moved on to be pretty big acts. This is one of those bands, they oozed potential. They are called Teenage Cool Kids from Denton, TX. Good stuff. Here are some pics and some shitty live footage but good song! Two other bands played too. Koji Kondo from TX and Weekend Warrior from LA.

The Weakerthans: One New-One Old

SO, these guys are from Winnipeg. I went to college in Fargo, ND which is a couple hour drive away from that great Canadian city. I went there with some friends one night to drink Labatts and break bottles in the street while singing our national anthem. Didn't do too much else. I have been a big fan of two bands from there that share the same guy. The old bass player from Propagandhi is the singer for The Weakerthans. Now, either you could give a shit about these bands or you COULD and those are your only two options. I particularly like both and I came across some footage of them for my next installment of "One New-One Old". Actually, there will be one new, one kinda new, one kinda less new and then one old ( real old, Propagandhi live from 1994). The reason being is that I haven't seen these until yesterday and thought I would share all there goodness. The Weakerthans don't break any new ground in music today or anything, they are just a solid rock/alt band. Just let them win you over and you will be happy you did. SO, stop trying to be sooo damn cool and DO IT!!

One New: The Weakerthans - Civil Twilight

One Kinda New: The Weakerthans - The Reasons

One Kinda Less New: The Weakerthans - Our Retired Explorer

One Old: Propagandhi - Nation-States

Filthy Germans

SO, my buddy Dave from Germany is a 'model'. He is also the smelliest dude ever. We played in a shitass band together for a while in Tokyo called The Great Circuiting (sorry dudes but we were pretty bad, still, good times!!) So check out this link of him on some German model show, it's funny even if you don't speak German, AND then watch them crazy Germans, Scorpions, with "The Rhythm of Love" (I remember this video getting me pretty "worked up" when I was a youngin)

"Dave" the dirty German!

Hard New Years Eve

So, me, my lil' darlin' plus some friends went to HARD New Years Eve in dwtn LA last night. Today I am a vegetable, I got out of bed twice to do essential things but I have been bed ridden all day. Last night was great though! We saw Peaches and Justice play. Justice was killing it until they were forced to stop due to too many people on the stage. The whole crowd was really getting into, like Euro style and shit. The event was poorly put together but was still fun, at one point my lil' lady and I worked our way on stage and got next to peaches. (we actually were next to her the day before too because we saw her at the Murakami show at the MOCA) Basically anyone could go anywhere, funny.
So here are some pics from last night and one from today,
Happy New Year from cLAy TV!!

Traditional new years food in Japan called, Osechi. It was good for my hangover actually.
